She later took the <a href=\"https:\/\/bridge.edu\/tefl\/courses\/online\/120-hour\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bridge 120-Hour Bridge Master Certificate Course<\/a> then landed a full-time job teaching English near San Jose.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><em><span class=\"s1\">In this interview, Arunima shares her teaching experience and cultural insights in this paradisiacal country in Central America, where she has been teaching for the last four years.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7592\" style=\"width: 601px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7592\" class=\"wp-image-7592 \" src=\"https:\/\/bridge.edu\/tefl\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/IMG_20200311_112154-1024x765.jpg\" alt=\"Teacher with her primary students\" width=\"591\" height=\"441\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-7592\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Arunima with her primary school students<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>How did you land your teaching job in Costa Rica?<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Upon completing my master\u2019s degree, I applied for a part-time English tutoring work in a language institute. Then, after I was TEFL-certified, I kept applying to private schools. Due to the Bridge certification, I got a full-time job at Kreative Montessori.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Please tell us about your job with Kreative Montessori.\u00a0<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">Kreative Montessori is a private primary school in the central part of <a href=\"https:\/\/bridge.edu\/tefl\/jobs\/teach-english-in-costa-rica\/\">Costa Rica<\/a>, very close to the capital city, San Jose. It is<\/span><span class=\"s3\"> bilingual in Spanish and English. My students are <\/span><span class=\"s1\">first through sixth graders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">The school focuses on striking a balance between the intellectual and emotional development of every child. I teach science and English, and I have to use various hands-on activities to impart the information. The students learn through projects as well as books.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p6\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>What do you like about teaching in Costa Rica?<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p class=\"p4\"><span class=\"s1\">Costa Rica is a very culturally rich and diverse country. It is also breathtakingly beautiful. It\u2019s part of their culture. My best friends have been my students in the past. Accept changes in food, culture, and language, and be willing to learn and be humble. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\">Since Costa Rica is a Spanish and a very Catholic country, one needs to accept and get accommodated to the food, taste, celebrations, and lifestyle of the people. The culture is very accepting of foreigners as long they can understand the Costa Rican culture and its restrictions.
