Join this session to learn more about the unique features of the part-time, hybrid SIT MA TESOL Program with its long tradition and established reputation as a trailblazer. It will offer a brief introduction to SIT’s approach to online teaching, including immersive online coursework and building virtual learning communities. In addition, you will explore two of the program features, plurilingual pedagogy and grammaring, which foster expedited, brain-friendly multimodal learning.

Meghan McMillan
Meghan McMillan is the Graduate Programs Outreach Manager & University Relations Manager at SIT, the School for International Training. McMillan has been with SIT Graduate Institute since 2019. She holds an MA in International Education from SIT Graduate Institute and a BA in Communication Studies from Gustavus Adolphus College. Her international experience includes a semester at Murdoch University in Perth, Western Australia; teaching English in rural Thailand; and a two-week SIT field course in Barbados and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. McMillan uses her diverse background of international experience to assist in the growth and visibility of SIT’s graduate programs.
Leslie Turpin
Leslie Turpin is a faculty member at SIT. After teacher-training in refugee camps in Thailand, Leslie began teaching in SIT’s MA in teaching programs in 1989. Her interests include refugee adjustment, cultural identity and memory, cultural and linguistic revitalization, reflective practice, classroom inquiry, teaching practice, literacy non-formal education, and teaching supervision. She received her PhD in integral studies at the California Institute for Integral Studies in 2004. Her research on intergenerational passing of cultural memory within a Laotian-American community led her to an exploration of the relationship between heritage culture/language vitality and the support of artists in a community. Leslie is a 1985 graduate of SIT’s MA in TESOL program.
Elka Todeva
Elka Todeva has been on the faculty of SIT Graduate Institute since 1993, where she teaches and does research in the areas of second language acquisition, English applied linguistics, critical pedagogy, language analysis, multilingualism, teacher cognition, and ecological approaches to teaching. She holds a doctorate in English applied linguistics and a master’s degree in British and American literature, English linguistics, and simultaneous interpretation. A native of Bulgaria, Elka began working in the US as a visiting Fulbright scholar. Elka has taught and supervised in Europe, Asia, Africa, North America, and Latin America, and is equally enthusiastic about teacher training and working with ESL/EFL students. A speaker of multiple languages, she advocates plurilinguistic approaches to language teaching that take advantage of students’ prior knowledge and experiences.
