What Is a Pathway Program?
A Pathway Program is a step toward university study. Pathway courses are taken before you begin university, and allow you to earn college credit that counts toward a particular degree program. Bridge has partnered with Crown College to offer affordable TEFL / TESOL courses that can be taken for credit toward a graduate certificate or master’s degree at Crown.

Bridge and Crown College have collaborated to develop the Teaching English as a Christian Service TEFL / TESOL Micro-credential. Crown content contributor Dr. Alexander Zell guides trainees to develop the skills and mindset to adapt to a new environment as a missionary and share their teachings with the host community in culturally appropriate, impactful ways. This Micro-credential for service-minded teachers may be taken for college credit that applies directly toward certificate and degree programs at Crown College.
Dr. Zell holds a Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies from Trinity International University. He is the Director of the Graduate School of Ministry, Christian Ministries, & Global Leadership at Crown.
Crown College Pathway FAQs
The program has two components: Bridge TEFL / TESOL courses and Crown College courses. Bridge and Crown College each have their own entry requirements.
Bridge requirements:
You must be at least 18 years and have a high school diploma or the equivalent to take Bridge TEFL / TESOL courses.
If English is not your first language, you’ll also need to meet the English proficiency level requirements of the courses in the program you choose:
- • For all courses: at least a B1 level according to the Common European Framework (CEFR), which is a score of approximately 5.0 on the IELTS test.
- • For the IDELTOnline, a C1 CEFR level or higher, which is a score of approximately 7.0 on the IELTS).
Crown College requirements:
- • Completed application for admission
- • Spiritual Life Essay (included as part of your application)
- • Official high school transcript
- • Completed FAFSA

Yes! It’s a good idea to begin the Bridge component of the Pathway Program as the first step toward your graduate certificate or degree program at Crown College. When you enroll with Bridge, you can start the first course in your program immediately (or, if your program includes the IDELTOnline, you’ll have a specific start date), so you’ll be well on your way to becoming TEFL certified.
All Bridge courses can be started the same day you enroll (except the IDELTOnline, which has set start dates every month). Most students complete their general TEFL / TESOL course first, such as the Master Certificate or IDELTOnline, then complete the additional courses in the program, such as Specialized Certification in Teaching English Online.
Don’t worry! You’ll still earn an accredited, internationally recognized TEFL / TESOL certification from Bridge that will qualify you for English teaching jobs around the world.
You’ll also enhance your resume with specialized training that will make you a competitive candidate for online and in-person teaching jobs. Bridge certification never expires, and you’ll get lifetime job placement assistance for wherever your TEFL career takes you.
In addition, you can earn transferrable university credits for many Bridge courses regardless of your acceptance to Crown College. The American Council on Education’s College Credit Recommendation Service (ACE CREDIT®) has recommended the following Bridge courses for undergraduate or graduate credits:
- • IDELTOnline - 9 graduate credits
- • Master Certificate - 6 undergraduate credits
- • Foundations and Advanced Methods in Teaching English Online - 6 undergraduate credits (3 credits each)

Except for the IDELTOnline, which has weekly due dates for assignments, all Bridge online courses are self-paced, so you can start the day you enroll and then log in to work on your course whenever it’s convenient for you, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Please note that Bridge courses include written assignments in some modules, and these assignments are assessed by your personal tutor within one business day. You may move on to the next module after submitting an assignment, but you will only be able to complete the next module’s assignment once your tutor has graded the previous one.
Because the courses are self-paced (except for the 12-week IDELTOnline), how long your Bridge program takes to complete depends on the amount of time you’re able to dedicate to your course work.
No textbooks are required for Bridge courses. All the materials you’ll need are available via the online learning platform.
Bridge courses required access to the Internet, including the ability to watch online videos. It’s recommended that you complete your course on a desktop computer, laptop, or tablet, although some components can even be completed via a smartphone!
Yes! These packages will give you a strong foundation in English language teaching methodology, lesson planning, and grammar, as well as specialized training in teaching English online. When you complete the Bridge component of your Pathway Program, you’ll be highly qualified for online or classroom-based English teaching jobs.
The course itself includes a section about professional development, with job tips by region, resume help, and other resources. You’ll also get access to the Bridge Job Board, where employers post open teaching positions around the globe to which you can apply.
Yes, you can. Our online TEFL courses are accredited and may be taken for CEUs. You earn 1 CEU for every 10 hours of TEFL certification. For example, a TEFL course of 100 hours would be eligible for 10 CEUs. Click here to learn more about CEUs.
