Educators who prepare English language learners for high-stakes exams sometimes fall into the trap of “teaching to the test.” This approach is often detrimental to their students’ long-term success in understanding and using English. Join our expert panel for a discussion on what is meant by “teaching to the test.” You’ll learn how English language programs can better serve students by understanding their motivations for taking high-stakes tests and re-examining how we think about test prep in these programs.

Misty Wilson, Ed.D.
Misty Wilson, Ed.D., currently serves as Head of Teaching for Immerse, which offers virtual reality language learning software. Before joining Immerse earlier this year, Misty used her assessment literacy and TESOL expertise to support IELTS prep test taker resource development and teacher training with IELTS USA. With over 15 years of experience teaching English language learners, Misty is an active member of several professional organizations, including EnglishUSA, TESOL International Association, and NAFSA: Association of International Educators.

Ian Wright is the inaugural Director of BridgeUniverse, Bridge Education Group’s media, research and news division. Wright spearheads efforts to fill the gap in the understanding of trends and opportunities in the rapidly growing English Language Teaching (ELT) industry. He brings over 20 years of education industry knowledge, university leadership, and consulting experience in international education and student enrollment management, including Director of International Admissions at LIU Post, Director of Partnerships at World Education Services (WES), and University Relations Manager for Prodigy Finance.
Daniel Lesho
Daniel Lesho earned his Ed.D. from Cal Poly Pomona in 2020 and is the president of the English Language Testing Society. He has led the English language programs at UC Davis and Cal Poly Pomona. Prior to his position at UC Davis, Dan was the Executive Vice President at iTEP International, where he was responsible for the oversight of daily operations, new test development, and research. Dan earned a master's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language from Simmons College in Boston and a bachelor's degree in history from Providence College in Rhode Island. Dan has overseas English language instruction experience in Korea and Japan, including positions at Nagoya University of Foreign Studies and Tokai University in Nagoya, Japan.
