From Bucaramanga, Colombia, Luis Ávila supports professionals across Latin America on their English learning journey. With 15 years of language teaching experience and a strong academic background–including a degree in Chemistry, TKT-TEFL certification, a Master’s and a PhD in Education–Luis brings knowledge, empathy, and structure to every class.
He has been part of Bridge as a Global Teacher since 2022 and highlights how enriching the experience has been: “My time at Bridge has been wonderful. I’ve been with the company for three years and have only met amazing students, learned a lot, and worked with an excellent team.”
In addition to speaking English, Spanish, and basic Portuguese, what motivates him most as a teacher is seeing his students grow and reach new goals—especially when language becomes a tool for professional development and expanding their global reach.
Mid-Year: New Classroom Dynamics
During June and July, Luis observes a natural shift in classroom dynamics. Changes in work schedules and vacation periods often lead learners to reassess their priorities. “It’s a time when they start to prioritize their activities and language learning differently,” he explains.
In response, Luis has a clear approach: adapt, connect, and enhance. He focuses even more on personalizing his classes, ensuring every session is practical, dynamic, and result-oriented. He avoids rigid models and instead proposes an engaging pace that respects each learner’s unique process.
Student-Centered Teaching
Luis believes in active learning. His classes are designed for learners to express themselves, experiment, make mistakes, and learn continuously. “It’s the student who needs to do, try, make mistakes, and learn. They should always be active in the class.”
This personalized, communicative approach is, according to Luis, one of Bridge’s key strengths: “At Bridge, learners benefit from dynamic, coherent classes focused on their needs and goals, led by top-tier teachers and with an international, vibrant approach they won’t find elsewhere.”
A Message to the Bridge Community
To his fellow teachers, he encourages continuing to apply inspiring, impactful teaching strategies. To learners, he reminds them that language progress is built day by day: “Acquiring English–or any language–is a process that depends on consistent, effective exposure. The more, the better. And learners can feel confident that at Bridge, they’ll find the right team to meet their needs.”
Luis’s story reflects Bridge’s commitment to teacher-first instruction, where every class is designed with intention, care, and long-term vision. Because when motivation is nurtured with empathy and strategy, learning stays alive.
