Bridge Attends Millennial-Focused Expo in Chile

Bridge Education Group was excited to take part in the recent 2017 Expo, Capital Humano, in Santiago, Chile on November 14th, 2017. The annual event is an opportunity for Latin American human resource executives to meet with regional businesses to exchange ideas for collaboration and to learn about market intelligence and trends in this sector in Chile and throughout Latin America. Watch a video to learn more about the event.

Bridge, which has operated a language center in Santiago (as well as in Buenos Aires, Argentina) since 1986, participated in the event. Bridge President, Jean-Marc Alberola, and Bridge Regional Director (Argentina & Chile), Carlos Pizarro, hosted a booth at the Expo, where they met with current partners and networked with potential corporate clients to explore new opportunities. They also shared information on new language initiatives at Bridge, including the EnglishPlus program, which combines general or business English courses with Ivy League management certifications and IT training.

This year’s Expo, which drew about 1,500 attendees, focused on the theme “No Eres Tu, Soy Yo” (“It’s not you, it’s me”), which was a comment on the idea that companies should reexamine their perspective on hiring today’s Millennials and members of “Generation Y.”

The event featured popular talks on this theme by acclaimed speakers such as Nick Tasler, best-selling author and psychologist; Denise Goldfarb, Director of Human Resources for Microsoft in Chile; and international speaker and writer on generational issues, David Stillman, co-author of When Generations Collide and The M-Factor: How the Millennial Generation Is Rocking the Workplace.

Speakers posited that instead of companies complaining about the younger generations’ lack of commitment or trying to make them fit a historical role within the organization, we should recognize the unique attributes today’s young people have to offer, such as flexibility, daring, capacity for innovation, and a deep understanding of the digital world. For this reason, it was argued, it is not the younger generations who must adapt to the companies, but companies who must evolve and adapt to Millennials and Generation Y, in order to attract and retain them.
