Assignments
To meet the CELTA training and certification requirements, trainees must:
- Maintain 100% course attendance and participation in all scheduled activities and daily assignments.
- Teach classes for a minimum of 6 assessed hours.
- Record and report feedback for all teaching practice classes for self and peer lessons.
- Participate in 6 hours of directed observations of experienced TEFL teachers.
- Evaluate the needs of teaching practice students to plan creative and efficient lessons to meet those needs.
- Write and submit lesson plans based upon material appropriate for their class level.
- Complete 4 written assignments.
- Submit a portfolio of all coursework.
Assessment in the CELTA is continuous and integrated, meaning that assessment takes place throughout the course and that both of the following two assessed components contribute to your overall grade.
Component 1: Planning and teaching
There are 5 required components of assessment that combine to make up 100% of the trainee’s total grade (percentage breakdown below). IDELT trainees will receive grades for both on-going and final assessment in the following areas:
Component 2: Classroom-related written assignments
This component consists of four written assignments on the following topics:
- Adult learners and learning contexts
- An aspect of the language system of English
- An aspect of language skills
- Reflection on classroom teaching and the identification of action points
Evaluation and Final Report
Upon completion of the Cambridge CELTA, Bridge will issue trainees a final report detailing what was covered during the course and the trainee’s overall performance. This report can be included as a complement to the resume and cover letter when applying for teaching jobs.
